July 9, 1996, Veterans Stadium, Philadelphia
Starting pitchers: Charles Nagy, Indians; John Smoltz, Braves.
Managers: Mike Hargrove, Indians; Bobby Cox, Braves.
MVP: Mike Piazza, Dodgers.
Highlight: The NL scored once in the first inning and added two more runs in the second, one of them coming on a solo homer by Piazza. The Dodgers catcher added an RBI double in the third to give the NL a 4-0 lead. Padres third baseman Ken Caminiti led off the sixth inning with a home run for the NL, which added its final run later in the inning on a groundout by Craig Biggio. Nine NL pitchers scattered seven hits. They did not walk a batter. Neither did the five AL pitchers who threw in the game, marking the first All-Star Game without a walk by either pitching staff.
Did you know? It was the third straight victory for the NL, which took a 40-26-1 lead in the series. Hopefully, the NL players savored the victory. It would be 14 years before they won again.
Padres representatives: Caminiti, Tony Gwynn.

AL: Roberto Alomar, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr., Frank Thomas.
NL: Biggio, Tom Glavine, Gwynn, Barry Larkin, Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, Piazza, Ozzie Smith, Smoltz.
