Grant a wish for an area nonprofit

Crystal Schelle
cschelle@herald-mail.com

Tis better to give than to receive, as the saying goes. But area nonprofits believe that it’s just as great to receive, especially in these days of funding cuts.

For nearly a decade, Herald-Mail Media has been asking our readers to dig deep into their pockets and help out area nonprofit for our annual Nonprofit Holiday Wish List. We asked the nonprofits to request specific items so that the giver knows exactly what the donation is; however, this year we allowed nonprofits to ask for monetary donations as well.

How does this work? Simply find your favorite nonprofit, or an organization on these pages whose mission fits your own beliefs, and find an item on the list to give.

On the nonprofits’ end, we ask that they ask those who are donating if they saw the need on the wish list and keep a tally. Nonprofits, we are stressing that you keep track this year in order to help continue on this tradition.

In January we’ll circle back and see what items have been received as a direct result of the list.

We hope that in the end, it will fill your heart with holiday cheer to give and will help nonprofits to help continue their missions throughout the year.

And if you’re a reader and decide to donate, send me a note to tell me what you donated and why you wanted to donate to lifestyle@herald-mail.com.

Happy holidays!
