Servicemen remember heli crash victim

Military colleagues and friends have commemorated a British serviceman who died when two helicopters crashed over the northern Arabian Gulf.

Lieutenant Andy Wilson was one of six British aircrew officers who died when two Royal Navy Sea King helicopters collided in the early hours of March 22.

The ceremony, the third repatriation following the deaths, was held aboard HMS Ark Royal, currently in the Gulf.

Captain Alan Massey, commanding officer of HMS Ark Royal, read a psalm as did Lieutenant Commander Dave Crimmins, the senior pilot of the dead men's 849 Naval Air Squadron A Flight.

A fly-past by a remaining Sea King, and a three-volley salute from a firing party also marked the occasion.

Lt Wilson's coffin was adorned with the White ensign, his officer's cap, sword and the emblem of 849 squadron.

All were based at the Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, near Helston, Cornwall. An American serviceman also based at Culdrose died in the crash.
