Don't expect John Cusack to be making any cameos in Disney's High Fidelity reboot.

It was reported last week that the House of Mouse is developing an episodic re-imagining of Nick Hornby's novel and the cult classic Cusack film, to premiere alongside new Star Wars and Marvel shows, and reboots of The Muppets and High School Musical for its upcoming streaming service.

Unlike in the original film, Cusack's character of sad-sack record shop owner Rob Gordon will be gender-swapped, so the High Fidelity series can be told from a female perspective.

Disney is also expected to tone down much of the original film's edgy humour, since its Netflix rival will be aimed squarely at family viewing.

John Cusack seemed fine with the gender-swapped twist when questioned by a follower on Twitter, but isn't a fan of softening any of High Fidelity's humour.

"The woman part seems good / the rest not so much," he tweeted. "But it's nicks book hope at least he's involved- if he's not - it'll suck."

When another fan pointed out the appeal of High Fidelity was Cusack's character's "exquisite, well scored, misery", the actor replied: "Of course - they want to brand their thing with our thing- they'll f**k it up ;)."

There's been no casting announcements for the project just yet, but Ugly Betty writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka are attached to write the series.
