The Pinellas County school system offers 70 special programs for families who want to venture beyond their zoned school, with options that include magnets, fundamental schools and high school career academies. Ridgecrest is the district's only full-time gifted elementary program. It starts in first grade. The curriculum provides opportunities for acceleration, enrichment, research, integration of technology and allows children to explore their interests. A qualifying IQ score and psychological report are required for first grade. A gifted education plan is required for applicants in grades 2 through 5. The center provides a technology-rich environment with iPads for all students, who are encouraged to bring the devices home for guided activities. Applicants who live north of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard must apply to Kings Highway Elementary, and those who live south of Ulmerton Road must apply to Gulf Beaches. Students who live between the two arteries can apply to either school. This four-year program focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. The program format is provided by Project Lead the Way through Rochester Institute of Technology. It offers an introduction to engineering, aeronautical engineering, computer-integrated manufacturing, digital electronics, principles of biotechnology engineering, civil architecture, and engineering design and development. Provides students with skills needed in the IT field. Students choose to focus on one of three strands: Computer Systems and Information Technology, Web Design and Digital Design. They also can earn industry certification in Microsoft Office, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Server +. (Applications accepted from the north county application area only.)

Prepares students for careers in veterinary medicine, veterinary day care, grooming and agility, and veterinary technology as veterinarians, veterinary surgical assistants and technicians.
