Wegmans is opening a two-story supermarket at the Natick Mall at 7 a.m. Sunday, representing its sixth store in Massachusetts.

The 146,500-square foot store is one of the largest in the 96-store chain, and features a cart conveyor system to help customers navigate with their carts between floors. The Natick store will also feature two restaurants – The Burger Bar and the Blue Dalia Restaurant & Tequila Bar – along with the usual Market Café.

“This store is a unique space that looks unlike anything we’ve done before,” said Store Manager Rich Boscia.

While some employees have been undergoing training for as long as six months in other Massachusetts stores, Wegmans is still hiring full-time and part-time staff for the Natick store.  The store will employ about 550 people.

Attached to a multi-floor mall, the new store will have entrances on both levels, and parking is available in a parking garage connected by a covered walkway.

“This is a beautiful place to visit for anything from a cup of coffee and a snack to a full grocery shop or a memorable dinner at Blue Dalia,” said Boscia. “Apart from the look of the store, what may surprise people most is our combination of quality, incredible service and low prices. We want to be the place where families, business people, mall shoppers and the community gather.”

Wegmans plans to open stores in Chantilly, Va., and Lancaster, Pa., later this year.
