Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas, an Evening of Celtic Music at the Griswold

Baker Allegan Studios presents a concert featuring Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas, November 17 at 7 p.m. at the Griswold Auditorium, 401 Hubbard St., Allegan.

Fraser has been featured on more than 100 television and radio shows in the United Kindgom, and on several nationally-broadcast programs in the United States, including CBS Sunday Morning, NPR Morning Edition, A Prairie Home Companion, and The Thistle & Shamrock. On The Kennedy Center Honors (CBS TV) Fraser played a special solo tribute to honoree Sean Connery, a fellow Scot, in a segment that included Catherine Zeta-Jones. Alasdair has made guest appearances with groups as diverse as Los Angeles Master Chorale, The Waterboys and The Chieftains, and as featured soloist along with Itzhak Perlman at New York's Lincoln Center. His film credits include solo performances on the soundtracks of several major films, including The Last of the Mohicans and Titanic.

Haas is one of the most sought after cellists playing traditional music today. She and Scottish fiddler Fraser have toured as a duo for more than twelve years, wowing audiences at festivals and concerts worldwide with their unique sound. Their first album together, Fire & Grace, was awarded Best Album of the Year in the Scots Trad Music Awards 2004. Haas has also toured with Mark O'Connor as a member of his Appalachia Waltz Trio. She and O'Connor premiered his double concerto for violin and cello, "For The Heroes," with the Grand Rapids, East Texas, and San Diego symphonies. As a studio musician, Haas has been a guest artist on more than fifty albums, including those of Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster and Irish super-group Solas.

Tickets for the concert are $25/main floor, $20/balcony and are five dollars off in advance. There will be a VIP reception with advance concert ticket purchases. The VIP ticket is $15 additional and will be at Baker Allegan Studios, just five blocks away from the auditorium. The VIP reception will be after the concert, from 9 p.m. to midnight.
