Local bands have until June 1 to enter the Los Angeles County Fair’s Battle of the Bands contest.

The winner of the Pomona competition earns a spot in the 2016 Vans Warped Tour at Fairplex in Pomona (same place as the fair at 1101 W. Mckinley Ave., Pomona) and cash. First place gets $1,200, second place wins $800 and third place takes home $500.

Organizers are looking for college and high school aged bands to participate in the battle. An initial 20 will be selected and then from there eight will be selected to compete in the competition.

Interested bands need to send an application, which can be found at lacf.com, video, biography, set list with lyrics, a band photo and stage plot. No duos or soloists will be accepted.

The battles will take place Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Sept. 9 and 16 with the finale set for Sept. 23 (also a Wednesday).

Judges will be Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman, promoter Goldenvoice’s Skip Paige and other music industry people.

Staying in Los Angeles County, this year’s Make Music Pasadena will have a number of Inland Empire acts, including Upland’s Jonny Come Lately and Lake Arrowhead’s My Own Holiday.

Headliners set to play include How To Dress Well, Sir Sly, Hundred Waters, Kishi Bashi, Nick Waterhouse and many more.

At the Glass House in Pomona, Laguna Beach folk-hop artist Shea Freedom is opening for Rising Appalachia on May 29. The concert aims to support local nonprofit organization Ettie Lee Youth and Family Services and its programs. The Ettie Lee organization, which began in 1950, helps abandoned and abused youths and families in San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Riverside counties.

Doors for the show open at 8 p.m., with the concert set to start at 9 p.m. Tickets are $18-$20. The Glass House is at 200 W. Second St., Pomona.

In Ontario, the Huck Finn Jubilee has added comedian, actor and musician Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers to its all ready packed lineup on June 13.

The festival is scheduled for June 12-14 with Dr. Ralph Stanley, Railroad Earth, Leftover Salmon and many others. Additionally, Steep Canyon Rangers also will have its own set sans Martin on June 13.

The festival takes place at the Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park at 800 N. Archibald Ave.

Tickets range from $49.95 for an adult one-day pass to $124.95 for an adult three-day pass. Ages 13 and older require an adult ticket, while ages 12 and younger are free. There’s also different pricing for RV, tent, VIP and the Bluegrass Academy for children.
