Oh great, Hollywood is at it again with another reboot of a movie that was released in the 2000s. This time, the unfortunate movie is Underworld, the vampire vs. werewolves action movie that first rose to prominence back in 2003.

Since the first movie, three others were released, the last one back in 2012. Of all the films, only one, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was not starred by Kate Beckinsale (Selene) since it was a prequel that was set in a time before her character was even born.

We have to admit; the movies are OK for what they are, but do they really require a reboot? Is it possible that Kate Beckinsale is no longer interested in dressing up in spandex as the lead vampire character, or is it because Lakeshore Entertainment realized that they have messed up the last couple of films and are planning to do better with the reboot.

Whatever the case may be, Underworld doesn't need a reboot this early in its life.

For those who are wondering, Cory Goodman has been hired to pen the script. He's the man who wrote the script for Priest, that terrible movie from 2011, and he' also the man writing the script for The Last Witch Hunter, starring Vin Diesel.

Producers of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, are Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi.

It would be interesting to see who is chosen to be the new Selene, or if the story will be changed altogether with new character and a completely new setting. While we would prefer the studio to keep the movie off the reboot radar, we would accept a completely new story and characters for the next film.

It is easy to see why Lakeshore Entertainment is planning to bring Underworld from the dead. It's the studio's biggest earner at the box office as all 4 films managed a combined $458.2 million worldwide. Not particularly impressive, but good enough for what these movies brought to the table.

With Cory Goodman penning the script, one has to wonder if the next movie will experience the same kind of success. Let's face it, the man is not known for writing good scripts, so unless things have changed dramatically over the past few years, our faith in the reboot is quite thin.
