Bicyclist struck by car in Howard Beach

The bicycle that was being ridden by a man who was struck by a car Wednesday evening in Howard Beach lies in the intersection of 84th Street and 160th Avenue after the accident.

A man riding his bicycle was struck and killed by a car in a residential section of Howard Beach Wednesday evening; leaving the bicyclist with serious injuries.

The cyclist, Gary Zammett Sr., of Canarise, was riding at the intersection of 84th Street and 160th Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. when he was struck by a car. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. 

Police from the 106th Precinct patrolled 84th Street — a busy two-way thoroughfare through the Rockwood Park section of Howard Beach — Wednesday night, pulling over drivers for infractions such as running stop signs and not wearing seat belts in the wake of the accident.
