When two New Year’s Eve love triangles turned violent, two men spent the first morning of the year in jail.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Dave Hartman:
A Kiss, A Stabbing: At 1 a.m. on Wednesday, police responded to South End Road in Morris Cove, on a report of a stabbing. Outside a house, they found a 26-year-old whose pants were soaked with blood.
The victim told cops he’d been stabbed in the thigh after he kissed the wife of the man in whose home he was ringing in the new year.
Inside, police found two men holding down the husband, a 25-year-old man. The man told cops he’d been drinking at the party. He walked out back and saw his wife and another man, kissing. The husband got upset because the man and his wife had had a relationship years ago. “He said he didn’t remember picking up the knife and stabbing anyone,” Hartman said.
The wife told cops that she was receiving a “New Year’s kiss” from the victim when her husband saw her. He punched her in the face, “used insulting language to describe her,” and then went after the kisser.
Police arrested the husband on assault and breach of peace charges.
“Not In My House!”: At 2:46 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of gunfire on Sherman Avenue. They arrived at the aftermath of a New Year’s Eve party hosted by a 48-year-old woman. She told cops that one of her guests had been “behaving badly” and then “violently objected to a man talking to a woman he was apparently interested in,” Hartman said.
The man pulled out a silver gun and waved it around.
“Not in my house!” the woman yelled, and pushed the man out the door.
The man returned, grabbed the guy who had been talking to his love interest, put him in a headlock, and put the gun to his temple. Eventually he let go, left the apartment, and then fired shots from the hallway through the door.
Police arrested the gunman downstairs at his grandmother’s apartment. They recovered a Colt MK IV Series handgun from a closet. They charged the man, a felon, with gun crimes, threatening, and reckless endangerment.
