Parts of I-10 in Phoenix to be restricted for South Mountain Freeway work

PHOENIX — Parts of the Interstate 10 in Phoenix will be restricted overnight during the Aug. 17 weekend and into next week as crews continue construction on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said three different sections of the freeway would be restricted at three different times through next Thursday.
“There’s going to be a lot of work where crews are building the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway with the I-10 in the West Valley,” Ryan Harding with the department told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
The westbound Interstate 10 will be narrowed to two lanes between 59th and 75th avenues from 10 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday.
The westbound I-10 on-ramp at 43rd Avenue and westbound off-ramp at 51st Avenue will also be closed during that time.
The eastbound Interstate 10 will be narrowed to three lanes between 83rd and 59th avenues from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday.
The eastbound I-10 HOV on-ramp at 79th Avenue will also closed. The eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 51st Avenue will be closed from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.
The longest restriction along the I-10 will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights, when the westbound Interstate 10 will be narrowed to one lane between 43rd and 59th avenues.
But those are not the only restrictions that will take place during the weekend: The Loop 303 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction in areas between Camelback Road and Glendale Avenue from 10 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Saturday and the northbound Loop 303 on-ramp at Thomas Road in Goodyear will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Harding said drivers were encouraged to give themselves extra travel time or take alternate routes while those restrictions and closures were in place.
