Colton Underwood upsets fans after cracking a joke about Bachelor breakups just a week after announcing split from Cassie Randolph

Colton Underwood revealed last week that he and girlfriend Cassie Randolph have called it quits.

But the Bachelor alum seems to have a good sense of humor about the split, just a week after it was announced.

He took some backlash recently after he made a joke about Bachelor Nation breakups, which some of his fans thought was 'too soon.'

The 28-year-old responded to a photo posted Sunday to Instagram by Bachelor season 17 star Sean Lowe.

Lowe, who married his season's winner Catherine Giudici, wrote: 'Tomorrow night, my entire season is airing in a condensed 3 hour format for Bachelor G.O.A.T.

'Really excited to share my journey with you all. Also excited to get that 15 minutes of fame back I’ve been desperately searching for for the past seven years. No spoilers please.'

Underwood commented with a crack about the average longevity of Bachelor Nation relationships: 'Hopefully you are still with her!'

The former football player announced the split Friday on Instagram: 'Its been a crazy few months to say the least, Cass and I have been doing a lot of self-reflecting.

'Sometimes people are just meant to be friends - and that’s okay. We both have grown immensely and been through so much together - so this isn’t the end of our story, it’s the start of a whole new chapter for us.'

Underwood wrote on her own Instagram: 'Colton and I have broken up, but have decided to remain a part of each other's lives. With all that we have gone through, we have a special bond that will always be there.

'I love Colton very much and have an enormous amount of respect for him. We have both learned and grown so much these past couple years, and will always have each other's back. Always.'

A source told Us Weekly the split was a long time coming: 'Breaking up was not an easy decision for Colton and Cassie, but they believe it was the right decision at the end of the day.

'It was not something they did lightly. They had a number of conversations about their future beforehand. Now that all is said and done, they are starting a new chapter as friends.'

Underwood and Randolph began dating in November of 2018 after meeting on The Bachelor.

Randolph initially left the show after she said she didn't reciprocate his feelings for her, but returned and continued their relationship off the show.
