The AFL will issue a ‘please explain’ to Dane Rampe regarding two incidents from Friday night’s win over Essendon.

Contacted by foxfooty.com.au on Monday morning, the league confirmed they’ll make contact with Sydney’s All-Australian defender and seek a response.

During the second quarter Rampe told umpire Jacob Mollison “you talk like a little girl” in an exchange caught on the official’s microphone.

Rampe claimed not to hear the “play on” call from Wallace and was caught holding the ball.

Rampe: “What? I can’t hear that.”

Umpire: “I called it (play on) three times.”

Rampe: “You talk like a little girl.”

Umpire: “You stepped off your line — that’s your line.”

The second incident refers to the Swan’s decision to climb the goalpost at the end of the game.

No 50-metre penalty was paid, a call that was privately ticked off by Hayden Kennedy post-game, the AFL on Saturday morning and Gil McLachlan on Saturday afternoon.

Rampe risked a $1500 fine from the Match Review Officer Michael Christian for his bizarre manoeuvre, but avoided the wrath of the MRO over the weekend. Debate has raged ever since.

Nick Riewoldt, Paul Roos and David King were just three of several former stars of the game to criticise the adjudicating umpire for not penalising Rampe.

As per the AFL’s guidelines, Rampe will have to present a double-barrelled explanation to the League. At worst, he will face a financial sanction, just as Dustin Martin copped following his middle finger salute and snorting gesture in Round 3.

On that occasion, the Richmond midfielder apologised via Twitter but was issued with a $7,500 fine, $5,000 of which was suspended until the end of next season.
