16-day Endless Mountain Music Festival returns

Concerts at 10 venues around region

The 11th Annual Endless Mountain Music Festival returns Friday night for a 16-day run of concerts at 10 different venues in New York and Pennsylvania.

7:30 p.m. Friday: At Steadman Theater on the Mansfield University campus, the Festival Symphony Orchestra will play music for all ages from “Frozen,” “Batman,” “Star Wars,” “The Mission,” “Evita” and “The Wizard of Oz.” as film footage rolls on the big screen. Children and adults in costume are admitted free; parents with children in costume will be half price.

7:30 p.m. Saturday: For “Let the Music Begin” at the Corning Museum of Glass, the Festival Symphony Orchestra performs Khatchaturian’s “Violin Concerto” with guest artist Diana Seitz on violin, and the orchestra also will play pieces by Handel, Smetana and Liszt.

7:30 p.m. Sunday: “Piano Classics” at the Rockwell Museum (111 Cedar St. in Corning) features Russian pianist Asiya Korepanova, Chinese pianist Xixi Zhou and violist Justin Eichler.

7:30 p.m. Monday: “Historic Masters” at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts (104 Main St. in Wellsboro) with violinists Alla Wijnands, Nina Vieru and Sally McLain; cellist Gita Ladd and pianist Asiya Korepanova.

7:30 p.m. Tuesday: “Rhythms Alive” at the Deane Center with the Festival Percussion Ensemble.

•7:30 p.m.Wednesday: “Baroque to Classic Rock” at Troy High School (250 High St. in Troy) features the Festival Brass Ensemble playing songs by William Byrd, Giovanni Gabrieli, Scott Joplin, Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Jimi Hendrix.

•7:30 p.m.July 28: “Journey West: A Migration of Melody” at the Arnot Art Museum (235 Lake St. in Elmira) has the Max Buckholtz Ensemble playing music from the Middle East through Eastern and Western Europe and the United States.

7 p.m. July 29: “Crescendo” at the Steadman Theatre on the Mansfield University campus features the Festival Symphony Orchestra, the MU Choral Academy conducted by Peggy Dettwiler, and pianist Asiya Korepanova performing Beethoven and Chopin.

7:30 p.m. July 30: “Monumental” at the Corning Museum of Glass will include the Festival Symphony Orchestra and Xixi Zhou, the 2011 Wideman International Piano Competition silver medalist, performing Wagner, Rachmaninov and Dvorak.

7:30 p.m. July 31: “Wish Upon A Star at Cherry Springs State Park (4639 Cherry Springs Road in Coudersport) features the Festival Brass Quintet with percussion playing “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Moon River,” “Clair de lune,” “Tonight,” “Climb Every Mountain” and music from “Star Wars” and “Star Trek.” This is a free concert but pre-registration is required; call 814-435-5010.

7:30 p.m. Aug. 1: Celtic band Across the Pond performs at the Deane Center in Wellsboro.

7:30 p.m. Aug. 2: “All Jazzed Up” at the Penn Wells Hotel (62 Main St. in Wellsboro) features the Bram Wijnands Swingtet performing swing cabaret-style.

7:30 p.m. Aug. 3: “Classical Sax” at Knoxville Yoked Church (110 Alba St. in Knoxville) will include pianist Asiya Korepanova and saxophonist Joseph Murphy. (This is a free concert.)

7:30 p.m. Aug. 4: “Jazz ‘n’ Blues” at Keystone Theatre (601 Main St. in Towanda) features a jam session with master blues harmonica player Corky Siegel and jazz pianist Bram Wijnands.

7:30 p.m. Aug. 5: “Classical World” at Mansfield University’s Steadman Theater will include the Festival Symphony Orchestra featuring bassoonist Robin Plant, clarinetist Doris Hall Gulati and horn player Rebecca Dodson-Webster.

7:30 p.m. Aug. 6: “Celebrate the Music” at the Corning Museum of Glass has the Festival Symphony Orchestra teaming up with blues harmonica master Corky Siegel to present the world premiere of Siegel’s work “Symphonic Blues No. 7.” The concert and the 2016 festival will end with the orchestra performing Rachmaninov’s “Symphony No. 1.”
