(MEDIA GENERAL) – Need an excuse to eat pizza today? Congratulations! National Pizza Party Day is one of more than 1,200 national holidays, and it just so happens to be Friday, May 20.

In honor of one of the greatest foods in the history of time, here’s a by-the-numbers look at pizza:

6,000

A 2015 survey conducted by CiCi’s Pizza revealed U.S. adults eat an average of 6,000 slices of pizza in their lifetime. That seems like a lot, but then I remember college and now I think that number may be too low.

$38 billion

Americans spent more than $38 billion on pizza in 2015 — $38,504,164,116, to be exact. According to CHD expert statistics, the pizza industry is holding steady but seeing small declines year over year. Pizza sales dropped 0.05 percent from 2013-14. Chains found notable gains last year (up 3.38 percent), but sales at independent pizzerias dropped 5.01 percent.

300 percent

A trends analysis from PMQ magazine reported digital ordering from restaurants is growing 300 percent faster than dine-in traffic. The analysis credits millennials. I credit the expanding ability to complete more daily tasks while wearing sweatpants without judgment.

No. 1

Pizza Hut is king of the pizzaverse, maintaining the top spot according to sales results. Domino’s, Little Caesars, Papa John’s and Papa Murphy’s Pizza round out the top five. Congrats to you, Pizza Hut, now please stuff your crust with pizza rolls to make the dream of 12-year-old me come true.
