He has one of the most recognizable faces in pop.

But Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall has revealed his health problems which made him bloated, puffy and permanently exhausted, reports the Mirror.

The 54-year-old has revealed he suffers from hypothyroidism, a condition which also left him depressed.

“I’m not fully recovered yet but it’s not as bad as it was,” he said.

“It was undiagnosed for years and the specialist I saw told me I’d probably had it since 1993. I had no idea.

“I was never really overweight. That was the weird thing about it. I’d feel and look all puffy but if I went on the scales I never weighed more than 12 stone.

“I was getting more and more bloated and would wake up so confused, thinking ‘Did I eat a lot last night or something?’.”

After consulting a specialist, he has gone on a diet which cuts out caffeine and certain vegetables, including cabbage.

Simply Red have sold over 60 million records and US number ones include “Holding Back the Years” and “Money’s Too Tight To Mention”.

They are about to embark on a European tour.
