Puerto Rico Surfers Enjoy Large Waves Ahead of Tropical Storm Laura

Tropical Storm Laura was expected to impact Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and several other countries on Saturday, August 22, forecasters said, bringing the threat of heavy rainfall and flooding.

Tropical storm conditions were also expected along parts of the northern Leeward Islands, the northern coasts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos, and southeastern Bahamas. The National Hurricane Center warned that heavy rain could “cause mudslides and flash and urban flooding through Sunday.”

The storm is expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, though the intensity and track remained uncertain.
