Gambrills Student Jailed For 8 Months In China Is Home: Report

Matthew Fellows was reunited with his family Tuesday at BWI Airport, The Daily Mail reported. He had been accused of smoking marijuana.

GAMBRILLS, MD — A college student from Gambrills has reportedly been reunited with his family after being detained for eight months in a Chinese prison on bogus marijuana charges. Matthew Fellows, 23, shared an emotional reunion Tuesday with his mother, sister, father and other family members at BWI Airport, The Daily Mail reported.

Fellows, whose nickname is reportedly "Thorr" because he stands 6-feet-2-inches tall and has flowing blond locks of hair, was greeted with cheers when he landed. He was freed Saturday and flew back to America from Nanjing, where he had been held, landing around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Fellows' parents hadn't seen or talked to their son while he was incarcerated, according to the report. He is fluent in Mandarin and had initially traveled to China to teach kids English.

Fellows was tossed into the Nanjing Detention Center when someone falsely accused him of smoking marijuana and passing it around at a university. Investigators hired by the family told them it was all part of plot orchestrated by an acquaintance who was jealous about Fellows' relationship with a Russian model.

Fellows was held in small cell with 15 other men, the Mail reported. He slept on the floor and was limited to eating just a single bowl of rice and a cup of watery porridge each day.

Upon receiving evidence that he was innocent, a judge determined the allegations were false and the charges were dropped. Fellows told the Mail he now feels "outstanding."

"Let's go party, what do you say," he said.
