Gun Loaded With Hollow-Point Bullets Found By Cranford Police

Cranford Police arrested 3 adults and 2 juveniles who were inside the vehicle for unlawful possession of a weapon and other charges.

CRANFORD, NJ — Three adults and two juveniles were arrested after a gun loaded with hollow-point bullets was found during a traffic stop in Cranford.

On Saturday at 9:52 p.m. Patrolman Brian Trotter stopped a 2001 Mercedes Benz on Raritan Road near the intersection of Coleman Avenue when he observed a seatbelt and brake lamp violation.

During the stop, Trotter found a loaded handgun in the rear passenger-side seat pocket of the vehicle. The gun, loaded with hollow-point ammunition, was later found to be stolen from Georgia, Cranford Police report.

All five occupants were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, and receiving stolen property.

Abdul Simmons, 23, of Irvington; Natez Winston, 20, of Hillside; and Darrian Winston, 25, of Hillside were all processed and remanded to the Union County Jail pending a Superior Court appearance date. The two juveniles in the vehicle were processed and released to their family.

"This was a dangerous situation and I'm proud of the way our officers conducted themselves," Chief Ryan Greco stated. "There's no doubt that we prevented a crime from occurring and we were successful in removing another firearm from the streets."
