Duluth man dies in Wisconsin crash

A Duluth man died Friday in Chippewa County, Wis., when a semitrailer truck struck the car he was driving.

William M. Shelton, 77, was northbound on Wisconsin Highway 40 when he failed to yield the right of way at Wisconsin Highway 64 in the Town of Bloomer, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office reported. The semitrailer, fully loaded with logs, struck Shelton’s car shortly before noon.

Shelton was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver, Lavern J. Byers, 42, of August, Wis., was not injured.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, Bloomer police and fire departments, Bloomer Ambulance and Chippewa Falls Ambulance assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
