In Bentonville, it’s the opening day for another Christmas activity, Ice Skating on the Rink at Lawrence Plaza.

At noon on Saturday, the Bentonville Parks and Recreation opened the rink to the public, and held free skate sessions until 5PM Saturday night.

During the summer, the space is a splash pad, and in the winter, the parks and recreation team transform it into an ice rink.

At six Saturday night, the lighting of the downtown square will take place on the Bentonville Downtown Square.

After that, Bentonville Parks and Recreation will host the lighting of the community Christmas tree and an exhibition skate show by the Arkansas Figure Skating Association.

At 8PM Saturday the rink will reopen to the public for the last skate session of the day.

“I get to know a lot of people because they return every year. I haven’t really heard any bad things, a lot of them just love it and they come back all the time,” said Ice Rink Manager, Hannah Boydston.

If you do want to catch that last skating session, it’s five dollars per session, or three dollars if you have your own skates.
