Alice Glass has been awarded another courtroom victory as judges ruled that Ethan Kath, her former bandmate whom she has accused of rape, must pay nearly $21,000 in legal fees.

In November 2017 Kath sued Glass for defamation, breach of contract, and conspiracy but that case was later thrown out of court, with the judge finding that Kath had ‘failed to provide any admissible evidence’ opposing the motion.

‘The defamation lawsuit against me was dismissed! Thank you so much for the love and support throughout this ugly process,’ said Glass at the time, ‘this is a victory for survivors of abuse and sexual misconduct in countries where abusers use the court system to further victimize and keep people silent. WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.’

Thursday’s court victory will see Kath pay for Glass’ legal fees during this period.

The ruling comes seven months after Glass, real name Margaret Osborn, released a statement on her official website alleging that Kath, real name Claudio Palmieri, physically, psychologically and mentally abused her for nearly ten years.

Ethan’s spokesperson issued a statement denying the allegations. The statement reads: ‘I am outraged and hurt by the recent statements made by Alice about me and our prior relationship. ‘Her story is pure fiction and I am consulting my lawyers as to my legal options. Fortunately, there are many witnesses who can and will confirm that I was never abusive to Alice.’

Glass left the band in 2014 but only made her allegations in 2017, saying she was inspired to speak out by women who have been sharing their experiences with sexual assault and harassment following the Harvey Weinstein revelations.

‘Leaving Crystal Castles was the single most difficult decision I’ve ever made—that band was everything to me. My music, my performances and my fans were all I had in the world. I gave that up and started over not because I wanted to but because I had to,’ she said in her statement in 2017.

‘As difficult as it was, I knew that leaving was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It has taken me years to recover from enduring almost a decade of abuse, manipulation and psychological control. I am still recovering.’
