DES LACS, N.D.-Authorities have released the name of a 74-year-old Minnesota man who was killed Saturday, Sept. 9, when his pickup failed to yield and was struck by a train.

The man was identified Sunday, Sept. 10, as Robert Bowman of Hollandale, Minn.

The accident happened on a rural road 1½ miles west of Des Lacs in Ward County, which includes Minot. Bowman's pickup was traveling southbound, where the driver was involved in combining a nearby field, and was struck by an eastbound freight train, according to Sgt. Kevin Huston of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The train struck the pickup on the passenger side and stopped about a mile after the crash. "The pickup remained attached to the train the entire way," Huston wrote in his report.

Bowman was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
