Hoyas Head to James Madison on Friday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a Friday night matchup against the James Madison University Dukes.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. Georgetown is currently 3-0 on the young season and 1-0 on the road. 
 
A strong second half created a win for the Hoyas on Tuesday evening in McDonough Arena against the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds (0-3). The Hoyas defeated the Greyhounds 45-30, holding them to just nine points in the second half.  Graduate student Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) and senior Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) led the Hoyas with 15 points apiece. Venson tallied four assists and four rebounds, while White recorded three assists and six rebounds. Venson was 57 percent from the 3-point line.  The Blue & Gray outrebounded Loyola 41-37 and shot 29.6 percent (16 for 54) from the field, as well as hitting 50 percent from the free throw line. Georgetown forced 15 Greyhound turnovers with six steals in the game.
 
On Monday, graduate student Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in the league's first set of awards for the 2018-19 season.  Seeing her first game action since 2016-17, Adomako led Georgetown to a 2-0 week by averaging 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists.  In the 73-53 victory at Richmond, Adomako managed 14 points along with three rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.  In the 74-55 win in the home opener against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, she led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double as well as an assist and a steal.
 
The Hoyas have three players averaging in double figures as Adomako leads the way with 16.0 ppg.  Venson is second with 14.3 ppg, while White rounds out the top three with 11.0 ppg.  White and junior Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) have pulled down 20 and 19 boards on the season, respectively.  Venson is leading with 13 assists.  The squad currently holds an +8.6 rebounding margin over opponents as well as a +3.3 margin on turnovers.
 
James Madison is 2-0 on the season with victories over George Washington (50-37) and Delaware State (103-57).  Four players are averaging in double figures as Kamiah Smalls leads the squad with 15.5 ppg.  Kayla Cooper-Williams has been active on the glass with 10.0 rpg.  Smalls was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association's (CAA) Preseason Player of the Year and the Dukes were picked to win the conference by the league's coaches. 
 
Georgetown is 3-2 all-time against the Dukes, but 0-1 on the road.  The last meeting was a 79-76 loss in Harrisonburg during the 2009-10 season.
