Amy Brooks, the eighth-grade English Language Arts teacher at Ishi Hills Middle School, is excited to announce that two of her eighth-grade students, Angelina Heras and Samara Hartline, won first and second place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars essay contest with the theme of “Why I Honor the American Flag.” Mrs. Brooks, Angelina, Samara and their families, along with Oroville Mayor Chuck Reynolds and his wife Sandee, attended a banquet dinner where the students were honored and recognized with monetary scholarship awards and certificates. The award was sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Oroville Post, Auxiliary No. 1747. Angelina won first place and Samara won second in the essay contest. Angelina Harris beautifully read her essay to the crowd and did a fantastic job. Congratulations Angelina and Samara for your outstanding achievement!
