A high-speed chase with three young adults on Thursday morning in Barton County ended with the stolen truck and its passengers being spun out into a yard on the 1500 block of 11th Street in Great Bend, according to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.

The three suspects — 19-year-old Tanner Guyton, 20-year-old Esteban Foster and 18-year-old Jericho Riddle — remained in jail on Thursday afternoon in lieu of a $100,000 bond each.

All three men are from Great Bend.

According to the sheriff’s office: the chase started at 12:45 a.m. when deputy Alex Lomas tried to pull over a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with expired tags near the 400 block of SE 80th Avenue. The sheriff’s office later learned the truck driven by Guyton was stolen.

Guyton sped off, reaching more than 100 mph as deputies pursued the truck for about 23 miles around rural parts of the county. Guyton then drove into Great Bend where officers “attempted to deploy stop sticks but the suspects evaded them.”

Around 18th and Kansas streets, Guyon rammed Lomas’ patrol vehicle, causing “heavy damage.” The vehicle was disabled, but Lomas was not injured.

The pursuit topped 80 mph in Great bend, but “traffic was light at that time of the morning and there (was) little danger to the public.”

Sheriff Brian Bellendir authorized a pursuit intervention technique maneuver to spin out the truck and stop the chase. Deputy Richard Allen used his patrol vehicle to hit the rear of the truck, spinning the suspect vehicle into the front yard of a home.

The truck struck a tree and came to a stop. Great Bend officers and deputies took the suspects into custody.

Guyton was charged with aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, obstruction, possession of stolen property and “numerous other traffic violations.”

Riddle and Foster had the same charges minus the traffic violations and an additional charge of possessing drug paraphernalia.
