DANVILLE, Va. (WSET)- God's Pit Crew says one of its own is recovering after an accident destroyed one of their tractor trailers.

The Danville non-profit organization said one of its drivers was on their way to deliver a truck full of food and Gatorade to a children's home when they say the truck hydroplaned. The driver was not hurt.

"He was actually hanging by his seat belt as we talked to him,” said Administrative Director Rhonda Zola.

After living a nightmare Tuesday night, it's just another day at the office for volunteers at God's Pit Crew. But now, they're working with four trucks instead of five.

"With a piece of equipment like a truck and a trailer that is so vital to our ministry, now we have to start thinking about how we are going to recoup that and how we're going to acquire another truck and trailer which is so expensive,” Zola said.

James Hodge has volunteered at God's Pit Crew for 13 years. In that time, God's Pit Crew has donated millions of pounds of items to victims of a natural disaster. They're not going to let their own disaster stop them from continuing. “We're going to take the four [trucks] that we have and just double up with them and we'll continue to work,” Hodge said.

God's Pit Crew started in 1999. This is the first major accident the organization has faced.

"And that's a blessing because we are on the road almost every single day of every week throughout the year,” Zola said. “So that is a huge blessing that we've never faced a huge disaster like this."

For now, they say all they can do is continue working and pray God helps them find another truck. No other vehicle was involved in the accident. The supplies inside that truck is okay.

God's Pit Crew is currently planning how they'll unload the truck onto another truck so they can bring the supplies to the Smoky Mountain Home for Children.
