Despite following a strict diet and restricting your calorie intake, are you still failing to shed kilos? Even cutting down on your calorie count considerably isn't helping you cut your belly fat? Well, this may not be entirely untrue. Experts reveal that there is actually an age when it becomes difficult to shed kilos. At this stage, it does not matter what kind of diet and exercise you follow.

The age limit
Unfortunately, your body does not shed calories the same way forever. As you touch the mark of 30, your muscle mass and strength decline, due to which you burn fewer calories, which more often than not leads to weight gain. This hold true for both men and women, according to Melissa Halas-Liang, media representative for the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
This is one of the reason why even after eating less, you have to work harder to burn unwanted fat from the body. The most disappointing thing is that the speed of weight loss declines after you reach the age of 30. The basal expenditure of the body also referred to as the amount of energy your body requires to conduct basic functions like breathing, decreases by up to 10 percent when you enter your 50s and goes further down by 20-25 percent by the age of 70. So, eventually the less energy you spend, the fewer calories you burn.
However, this has a bigger impact on the waistline of women. This is because women experience further hormonal changes with menopause, which can make it worse for them to lose weight. Meanwhile, it is still easier for men to lose weight as they have a higher muscle mass and faster metabolism, as compared to women even when they grow old.
But this does not mean that you cannot lose weight after 30 years. You just have to eat healthy and in the right portion, along with working out and staying active.
