Millburn 8 & Under travel team beats Summit 4-2

Pitching trio leads the way with no earned runs

Millburn's 8U District team began its district season with a 4-2 win over Summit. The game was well played on both sides.

Millburn loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning on three walks, but Summit induced a fly to pitcher to get out of the inning. Millburn began the scoring in the second inning with a walk to Zach Goodman and then a long drive to center by Nicholas Treue (photo attached, rounding second), which resulted in an RBI triple. A grounder to third by LJ Tuso scored Treue to bring the lead to 2-0. Summit struck back in the top of third to even the game at 2-2 on a single, a walk and a throwing error. However, in the bottom of the fourth, Millburn manufactured a run with a walk to Oliver La Londe, a steal, an advance on a ground out, and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Dooley. With the 3-2 lead, the Millburn pitchers shut down Summit the rest of the way. Goodman helped manufacture one more run for Millburn with a walk, steal, another steal, and then scampered home on a catcher's overthrow to the pitcher. The final score was 4-2 for a Millburn victory. The pitching trio of Dooley, Treue and La Londe combined for 12 strikeouts and no earned runs in the game. Millburn plays South Orange Maplewood next on Monday evening the 18th and then Friday evening the 22nd against Chatham, both in Warren, NJ.
