The military has released new information about a deadly shooting on the post in military family housing.

Spc. Brittney Niecol Silvers, of Jacksonville, Florida, was shot and killed outside her apartment over the weekend. Her husband, Victor Silvers is under arrest for premeditated first-degree murder.

The shooting took place shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday. A federal search warrant revealed a disturbing sequence of events.

According to investigators, Brittney Silvers and Victor Silvers were separated and getting a divorce. Spc. Silvers took out an order of protection against her husband on October 9, which barred him from owning a gun or threatening his wife.

Investigators say Silvers showed up at his wife’s apartment at Fort Campbell. Another man, James Keating III, who was visiting Brittney Silvers, heard banging at the door. She went to the door and stepped outside,

Keating heard them arguing and then two gunshots.

Keating claims Victor Silvers then confronted him inside the apartment. They struggled for the gun, and Keating was shot in the leg but managed to get control of the firearm.

Silvers allegedly ran to his car. Two neighbors stopped him from leaving until a military police officer showed up to arrest him.

Victor Silvers initially denied shooting his wife. Then, according to investigators, he confessed.

The shooting remains under investigation by U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI.

Spc. Brittney Niecol Silvers was an automated logistical specialist in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).  She was posthumously promoted to sergeant and received the Army Commendation Medal.

“101st Combat Aviation Brigade has lost an incredibly valued member of the Destiny team.  We continue to pray for her family and friends during this difficult time,” said Lt. Col. Cayton Johnson, commander, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (Rear), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
