Pixar’s upcoming sequels The Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 have had their release dates swapped, and we’re a bubbling casket of mixed feelings.

According to Variety, the superhero sequel will now release on June 15, 2018 while Woody, Buzz and the gang will be making their anticipated return on June 21, 2019.

So while we’re getting The Incredibles 2 sooner than expected, that means another WHOLE YEAR before our emotions spiral out of control with Toy Story 4.

It might be a worthy trade-off however considering a sequel to 2004’s The Incredibles is long overdue, with original director Brad Bird back on board to direct.

He’s previously stated how production is well underway in an interview with EW, saying: ‘It’s very actively moving, and we’re excited about it. We’re trying to take it in some new directions.

‘Hopefully it’s the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction. I mean, that’s the trick with a sequel. It’s repeating yourself, without repeating yourself,’ he added.

So long as Edna Mode returns for a ‘no capes’ lesson reminder, we’ll be satisfied.

It was also recently revealed these two sequels will be the last the studio is going to make for a while, switching back to delivering some original movies like 2015’s Inside Out.

News on Toy Story 4 has been fairly sparse, but it’s apparently set to be a love story for Woody and Bo Peep.

A representative for Pixar has been contacted for comment.

Why have they swapped release dates?

It’s currently unknown why the release dates have been swapped, but possible explanations include:

Production on The Incredibles 2 is running very smoothly.

The studio want to hold back anticipation for Toy Story 4 as it is a bigger property at the box office.

Or simply because Toy Story 4 requires more work – but we won’t dwell on the negatives.
