'I CAN PARK WHERE I LIKE'

Traffic warden goads parents as he ‘dumps car on double yellow lines to dish out tickets near a school’

Official parked 'dangerously' on a junction as he lurked near parents' cars in Wigston, Leics

A TRAFFIC warden allegedly said "I can park wherever I like" when mums challenged him for dumping his car on double yellow lines on a corner outside a primary school.

The "hypocrite" official was spotted lurking near parents' cars as they dropped off their kids before a school trip in Wigston, Leics.

Mum Wendy Scott, 44, said she noticed the warden's red Toyota Yaris parked "dangerously" on the corner close to All Saints Primary School.

And when she tried to snap a picture of the warden, she says he tried to flee as he "knew he was in the wrong" – but she still managed to get a shot of him sheepishly making his getaway.

Wendy said: "This warden is a regular. He covers the school, a car park near my house and the main street with a few others.

"That's how I recognised him and knew it was his car.

"He'd picked this corner to park when there were plenty of other places for him to leave the car. He'd chosen to park right on the junction over yellow lines.

"I noticed him and said 'what's that car there for' and he just said it was his.

"When I said 'you should be setting an example', he turned around and said 'I've got the authority to park my car wherever I like. I'm a parking enforcement officer.'

"That's just a posh word for a traffic warden.

"I told him he hadn't and he wasn't an ambulance or police car. He's a traffic warden.

"Other mums then started to say something to him then. He started to give us a load back saying 'I can do whatever I like'."

Wendy added: "Where he had parked was dangerous because some of the children walk up to school from the bottom of the street and it's only a primary school.

"It's also a main road through Wigston. It's busy and that's where all the shops are."

She sent the pictures to Leicestershire County Council, which is responsible for highways enforcement.

The county council said: "We have been made aware of the situation. What is reported as having happened appears to be completely unacceptable.

"We have asked Harborough District Council, which employs the officer, to carry out an immediate investigation and take appropriate action."

The district council said: "We are looking into this matter in consultation with the employee concerned.

"We take the conduct of our staff very seriously and will take disciplinary action if deemed appropriate following the investigation."

Last month a dad slammed "hypocrite" wardens who parked on double yellows before fining him in Birmingham.

In February we told how two dozy wardens were caught having a nap in their council Ford Fiesta in South London.
