Q: One of my favorite beer stores, which offered a variety of imported beers and microbrews, was Bob & Sheree’s Beer & Wine Shop at 2828 Raeford Road. I went by, and it was closed. I saw two other businesses nearby that were also closed. Have they moved or was the building condemned? Have they or will they reopen elsewhere? I don’t know of another place with the variety of products they offered. -- D.B., Fayetteville

A: Bob & Sheree’s Beer & Wine Shoppe on Raeford Road, the last of two previous locations in Fayetteville, closed earlier this year. A sister store on Hay Street had closed six or seven years ago.

Steve Lopez, who is the husband of former owner Sheree Beck-Lopez, said she has retired.

"It was 43 years she put in," he said. "She felt the time was right. So she felt that was the best thing to do. Her grandchildren are at an age where she can enjoy them."

Beck-Lopez grew up in poverty in St. Pauls but left for California to study horticulture and wine-making after high school. She returned to North Carolina with her first husband, Bob Accetturo, and opened her first store in 1979.

For years, the shop prided itself on offering a wide variety of wine and beers that were unavailable elsewhere in the community. Besides the two beer and wine shops, Beck-Lopez owned The Office Pub, an adjoining tasting room to the business on Raeford Road.

Accetturo died in 2009.
