Seals tried to get away from Storm Emma by taking refuge on a beach in Lincolnshire.

Several seal pups were spotted on the shore after leaving the water because of the icy conditions out at sea.

Dog walkers caught one of the cute animals trying to take shelter in a sand dune on Cleethorpes beach.

Officials have said there are around four or five grey seal pups, from a colony that breeds at Donna Nook, sheltering along the Lincolnshire coast.

‘Members of the public should not touch them and dogs must be kept away,’ a beach safety officer said.

He advised members of the public not interfere with the animals that were in their ‘natural environment’.

He added: ‘The seals just want to tuck themselves away from the elements.’

But that hasn’t stopped dog walkers like Jo Balding from worrying about the animals.

She said: ‘We just came out for a walk. It is quite a privilege to be so close.

‘This one is so cute. But we want to know he is going to be safe especially with there being dogs around and kids. He doesn’t look distressed.’

Temperatures are set to increase over the next few days so the seals should be back in the water soon.

At the moment beach officials are keeping an eye out for the animals and are keeping the seal sanctuary at Mablethorpe up to date with what is happening.
