A Kurdish militia backed by the U.S. claims that an American teenager was one of eight suspected Islamic State terrorists recently captured in Syria.

The Kurdish People’s Protection Units, known as YPG, announced Wednesday that 16-year-old Soulay Noah Su had been captured as part of operations on Jan. 6 and 7. Other alleged terrorists from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan were also captured during the operations.

According to the YPG, which is backed by the U.S., the men were composing attacks designed to hinder progress of Kurdish forces “by attacking civilians as a last resort.”

A State Department spokesperson told the Washington Examiner that the agency was aware of the reports, but did not provide additional comment.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, also backed by the U.S., announced earlier this week that two American ISIS fighters had been captured. One of the Americans, Warren Christopher Clark, 34, reportedly had applied for a position to teach English to students in ISIS, per the New York Times.
