Crashes lead to significant delays on I-81 in Shenandoah County

Drivers heading through Shenandoah County on Interstate 81 should be prepared for delays in either direction on Friday afternoon.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), a crash has completely shut down the southbound side of I-81 at mile marker 286.6.
This is between Toms Brook and Woodstock.
As of 4:27 p.m., backups from the scene stretched at least seven and a half miles.
A wrecker is on scene.
A few miles north, in the Toms Brook area, a separate tractor trailer crash is blocking the northbound left shoulder and left lane, causing backups of at least one and a half miles.
You can expect extreme congestion on Route 11 as well, as drivers look for detours.
