Armed police surrounded a house in Cambridgeshire this morning (June 24) following a suspected acid attack.

Police swooped on a home in Norwich Road, Wisbech after reports a woman had acid thrown over her.

Officers closed the road as armed police surrounded the house.

A cordon was put around the property.

Armed police could be seen training their guns on the window of the home as several others stood by the door.

Another armed officer took a position by the side of a police van, his gun trained on the house.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called after reports a woman suffered a suspected acid attack in the Norwich Road area of Wisbech.

"A substance was thrown on her but there were no serious injuries. This was an arrest attempt as part of the investigation. No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing."

Police said this was an isolated incident.

The incident comes after a man was stabbed in the same street the previous day and is now in a critical condition in hospital.

Police were called after the violent incident happened yesterday morning (June 23) at a house in Norwich Road, Walsoken, Wisbech.

Reports say there was an altercation between two men and one man suffered serious neck injuries.

There are also unconfirmed reports that others in the house may have saved the man's life after giving him treatment before the arrival of an air ambulance and the emergency services.

Police cordoned off neighbouring roads following the incident.

The man was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for further treatment where he remains in a critical condition.

What the police say

The stabbing and the acid attack are not connected.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at just before noon yesterday (June 23) to a report that a man had been stabbed at a property in Norwich Road, Wisbech.

"The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by air ambulance where he remains in a critical but stable condition. A 20-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in custody at King’s Lynn.

"A woman in her 40s has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting he course of justice and has been taken to King’s Lynn. A police scene is in place at the premises in Norwich Road and investigations continue."
