Speaking to The Hindu in Mayiladuthurai on Sunday, he said, under distance education mode, the university offered 360 postgraduate, undergraduate and diploma courses. "We've more than 2.75 lakh candidates from India and abroad on our rolls. This year, we are introducing a diploma course in film and television technology, MBA in Human Resource Management, Marketing Management and Financial Management, MCA and MSc (Psychology)." For the film and television technology course, we have a tie-up with 7th Channel Communications.

Dr. Rao said the university had 75 study centres of its own in India and Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, Canada, France, Sharjah and Dubai.

Some unique courses including yoga and meditation, health science, music, hotel management were also offered through distance education. "Besides, we have entered into technical collaboration with National Institute of Fashion Design, Chandigarh, and Surya Institute of Hotel Management for the respective courses."

He said that for our country with such a huge population, we needed at least 2,000 universities in place of the present 230, which were not sufficient to provide education for all the people.
