Roundup: Mount Everett wrestling goes 2-1-1 at home duals

SHEFFIELD — The host Eagles picked up two wins and finished the afternoon with a record of 2-1-1 in the Mount Everett duals Saturday morning.

Nick Lupiani (106), Zach Lupiani (126) and Jerimiah Tomascek (145) each went undefeated for the Eagles (4-2-1) with perfect 3-0 records.

"The wrestlers are starting to get aggressive and confident," Mount Everett coach Dan Lanoue said. "They were shooting take downs and it resulted in a lot of pins today."

The Eagles defeated Granby 42-30 and won 26-24 over Gateway. They tied Southwick with each team finishing with a score of 36, but lost to Gilbert, Conn. 36-30.

Omar Cruz went 3-1 on the day in the 138 weight class for Mount Everett.

Monument Mountain Wrestling

SOUTH HADLEY — Logan Mead and Caden O'Rourke each won matches at South Hadley on Saturday, 

O'Rourke defeated South Hadley's Eli Pietrzykowski via a 7-6 decision in the 195 weight class. Logan Mead, at 285, pinned South Hadley's Douglas Alolupotea at the 1:30 mark.  

College Football

East 31, West 27

ST. PETERSBERG, Fla. — At the East-West Shrine Game on Saturday, the East team scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to edge West by four.

Benny Lemay, a running back out of Charlote, rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns to lead the East side. He earned some of those yards running behind offensive lineman Jake Benzinger, a Wake Forest senior out of Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown. The a 6-foot-7, 308-pound offensive tackle played right tackle this year and was the lone Demon Deacon to suit up after earning a nod to play in the Shrine Bowl.

The East team was coached by Mike Caldwell of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The offensive line coach for the East was Phil Rauscher of the Washington Redskins.

According to the shrinegame.com website, "more than 100 players from last year's game signed with professional teams this spring, and more than 70 made final NFL rosters last season."

College Basketball

MCLA men 67, Framingham St. 64

FRAMINGHAM The Trailblazers held on at the home of the Rams for their eighth-straight win, while improving to 4-0 in the MASCAC.

MCLA (11-4) finished with a shooting percentage of 39.7 on the afternoon, but four different players scored in double figures, while making at least half their shots.

Ki-Shawn Monroe and Noah Yearsley each scored a team-high 13 points for the Trailblazers. Monroe added eight rebounds and four assists. Meanwhile, Yearsley had two rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Hayden Bird and Quentin Gittens finished with 10 points a piece off the bench.

Williams women 80, Colby 48

WATERVILLE, Maine — The Ephs scored their second-highest point total of the season with a blowout of Colby College on Saturday afternoon, splitting their weekend trip to Maine.

The outpouring of offense started in the first quarter as Williams (13-4) jumped out to a 27-18 lead by the end of the frame. However, the Ephs also showcased their defensive ability and held the Mules to just six points in the third quarter.

Mikaela Topper led all scorers with 18 points. Morgan Dauk scored another 14 points and brought down seven rebounds off the bench.

Maddy Mandyck came up just short of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Ephs.

George Washington 75, UMass men 51

AMHERST — The Minutemen dropped their third-straight game with a loss to George Washington.

The Colonials out-rebounded UMass 33-26 and had Armel Potter and Jack Maceo to do the heavy lifting on the offensive end. Armel converted 8 of 9 free-throw attempts and Maceo canned four, 3-point shots as the duo combined for 42 points.

Tre Mitchell finished with a team-high 13 points for the Minutemen (7-11), but only five players scored in the outing.

College Hockey

Williams men 2, Plattsburgh 2

WILLIAMSTOWN — After starting the season with a record of 9-4, the Ephs skated to their first tie of the season against Plattsburgh.

Williams (9-4-1) set the tone with the game's first two goals off the sticks of Mac Carso and Myles Cunningham. However, the offense went silent midway through the second period.

Adam Tretowicz netted an unassisted goal to cut the Williams lead to just one, and Joe Drabin took advantage of a power play late in the third period to knot the game at two.

Cosimo Lazzarino finished with 23 saves in the net for the Ephs as neither team could punch in the game-winning goal in overtime, forcing the draw.

Friday's Late Scores

Mount Everett hockey 4, Easthampton 4

SHEFFIELD It was a busy night for the Eagles, but when the dust cleared, Mount Everett settled for a draw.

Carly Duval, Caleb Kollmer, Cam Raifstanger and Dylan Boomsma each scored for the Eagles (1-7-2, 1-3-2).

Nick Zanin finished with two assists and Cole Duval stopped 26 of 30 shots in the Everett net.

Mount Everett led 2-1 after one period, getting a goal and an assist from Raifstanger in the frame. Then, after Easthampton evened it back up, Carly Duval struck late in the second to get the lead back. Boomsma made it 4-2 with 12:17 left in the game, but the Eagles couldn't hang on.

Wahconah 4, Southwick 0

SOUTHWICK Freshman Devin Lampron scored his first high school goal in a shutout win for the Warriors.

Keeper Antionio Scalise stopped all 25 shots that came his way in the Wahconah net.

The Warriors (7-2-1) spread the wealth offensively as Mike Cullet, Ryan LaPierre and Owen Kroboth also scored in the outing.

Meanwhile, Kroboth had two assists and LaPierre, Cullett, Nick Taylor and Mason Alfonso each had one.
