How to Insert HTML Into a Blogspot Template
Blogspot or Blogger blogs are useful for businesses to get extra Internet publicity or product information out to prospective customers. Since Blogspot gives a choice of templates to create blogs, getting a blog set up is a quick process. If your business wants to change some of the design, editing the HTML can be a tedious affair, but with these HTML edits, your company blog can stand apart from the standard templates.
-
1.
Log in to your Blogspot blog.
-
2.
Browse to "Template" in your Dashboard.
-
3.
Click on "Edit HTML" under "Live on Blog." Note that the "Edit HTML" button will be grayed out for "Dynamic" templates -- your only option is to switch to a standard template to edit the HTML.
-
4.
Click "Proceed" on the warning about editing the HTML for your template.
-
5.
Add your HTML code into your template. Make a comment before your additions with the "/" and "/" tags surrounding the comment to find your edited section easily later.
For example, adding "/ !!My edits /" will let you search for the string ("!!My edits") later to find your additions without browsing through the HTML or trying to remember where you added them.
-
6.
Check your blog with "Preview" and click "Save Template" to apply the changes. If your changes break something with the blog, you can always click "Clear Edits" to revert the blog to the previously saved state.

Tips
- Try changing your blog's stylesheet through the "Template | Customize | Advanced | Add CSS," first, as preferred by Blogger. This won't affect the base HTML template. Only edit the HTML if necessary.
- Download a copy of your blog's template before editing using the "Backup/Restore" button in the top right of the "Template" page.
Warnings
- Editing the HTML is only possible with standard templates -- dynamic templates don't allow HTML edits.
