Harold Edward "Hal" Decoste

It's with great sadness that Hal's family announce his passing on November 30, 2019 in Chiangmai, Thailand, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on March 28, 1945, Harold was predeceased by his youngest brother, John, and his parents, Harold Arthur Decoste and Dorothy Mae (Ivany) DeCoste. He is survived by his adopted sons, Yemane (Abby Haile) Muzey, Alberta; and Wut Ratchatanan, Chiangmai, Thailand; his sisters, Beryl (Austin) Jessome, Dianne (Dr. Thomas) Corkum, Lynda (Dr. Ronald) Killeen, Sylvia (Donald) Ritcey, Cathy DeCoste-Whitlock; his brothers, David (Janice Killeen) DeCoste, Michael (Nancy MacLellan) DeCoste; and many nieces and nephews. After Hal completed high school in Halifax he studied at The Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ont. and Royal Roads Military College in British Columbia. He spent 20 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, serving as a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons and then in a peacekeeping position in Cyprus. Hal had many postings and tours in Europe with NATO. With the rank of Major, he retired from the Canadian Forces and joined UNHCR as a field officer serving in Sudan, East Africa helping refugees. There he met his adopted son, Yemane Muzey. Our brother Hal spent the last 20 plus years of his life in Thailand, teaching English and managing a few businesses. His family appreciates the efforts of his adopted son, Wut Ratchatanan, and his family, who were there for Hal during his illness. A small family service will take place in Prince Edward Island later this year. You are always in our hearts, Hal.
