Cal (Pa.)’s record baseball season under Mike Conte helped the coach earn the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year honor by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Thursday.

The Vulcans posted 37 wins and 15 losses. Conte earned the honor for the first time since 2010 after being named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Coach of the Year.

It marked the eighth time Conte garnered the honor from the conference and first time since 2013.

The 37-win mark eclipsed the previous mark for wins accomplished in 2007.

The Vulcans led the Atlantic Region with a .712 winning percentage this season.

Conte became the first Cal (Pa.) head coach of a men’s sport to total at least 600 career victories.
