Mary Lou Jensen, 69 years of age, of Kearney, (formerly of Holdrege and Lexington), passed away on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at Mother Hull Home in Kearney, following a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Celebration of Life Service for Mary Lou Jensen will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Roger Wendt officiating. Interment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, following the services.
Mary Lou was born Oct. 1, 1948 in Stromsburg, the eldest of ten children to James and Charlotte (Ball) Kumpost. She received her education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1966. Mary Lou then pursued higher education at Kearney State College in Kearney.
On July 17, 1971, she was united in marriage to Darolin “Derry” Jensen at Holdrege. Mary Lou’s main focus in life was caring for, and raising her three beloved children. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Mary Lou was employed at Becton-Dickinson, Bee Printing Office and Supply, and was a librarian at the Holdrege City Library. They later relocated to Lexington, where she was employed at the Lexington City Library and then at the Dawson’s County Clerk’s Office until her retirement due to her diagnosis with MS. In 2010, she began to make her home in Kearney to be near her family.
Family was most important in her life. She especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, which were the center of her world. Mary Lou was an avid reader, enjoyed cake decorating, sewing and any kind of needlework. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Lexington.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Kumpost, and her sister, Barbara Schuetz.
Mary Lou leaves to celebrate her life; her children: Amy Baruth and her husband, Kevin; Lori Posvar and her husband, Tobias all of Kearney; and Brian Jensen and his special friend, Amanda Skiles of Holdrege; eight grandchildren: Allison and Ashley Baruth; Aidan, Brandon, Annika, and Jensen Posvar; and Rylan and Zayden Jensen; three great-grandchildren: Clara Baruth, Charlotte Ripp, and Carter Thomsen; Mary Lou’s siblings: James Kumpost and his wife, Laura of Riverview, Fla., David Kumpost and his wife, Beth of Anchorage, Alaska; Donald Kumpost and his wife, Liz of Punta Gorda, Fla., Patricia Beaudette of Holdrege; Robert Kumpost and his wife, Crystal of Kearney, Mo., Richard Kumpost and his wife, Dana of Lincoln, and Timothy Kumpost of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Mary Lou’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements.
