MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Bookstore Chief Clerk Shawn Fisher has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for April.

Fisher began at WIU as a clerk in the University Bookstore in June 2014 and was audited to his current position in December 2016.

According to his nominator, Fisher is always very positive in his roles in the bookstore.

"He handles all of the student scholarship accounts single handedly," said his nominator. "He pulls the athletic books, matching schedules and books. He keeps track of back-orders, calls the students regarding the back-order and reports to the scholarship office. He makes certain the scholarship recipient has the book supply they need for their classes and personally helps most of them within the bookshelves."

The nominator added that Fisher takes great pride in his work and it is believed he has "never had a bad day."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
