Adopt Me! Queen Is Recovering Well After Being Hit By a Car

Home: Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Queen, an American pit bull terrier who bounced back from an accident that rendered her back legs almost completely immobile.

On March 2, this sweet girl was brought to LifeLine Animal Project’s DeKalb County Animal Services (DCAS) shelter in Decatur, Georgia, after she was injured by a car. The shelter says that her owner came to reclaim her that same day, but he brought her back two days later because he was, sadly, unable to provide the care she desperately needed.

The LifeLine Animal Project took Queen to a veterinary clinic for X-rays which showed that she had a pelvic fracture and limited use of her rear legs — but even with that diagnosis, this sweetie was determined to walk (watch the video below as she tries). Luckily, Queen had people rooting for her, including rescue coordinator Andie Peart.

Peart shared the dog’s story with an aquatic wellness center for pets in Atlanta called Wag ‘N Swim, and they gave her the best gift ever: water therapy free of charge to help her heal. Now, in their own time, LifeLine employees and volunteers are taking turns getting Queen to her next 10 visits.

Karen Hirsch, public relations director for the LifeLine Animal Project, tells PEOPLE that Thursday night was Queen’s second water therapy session, and it went swimmingly! By the end of the session, she was standing on all fours and was able to distribute weight evenly — they expect Queen will walk normally by the end of her water therapy.
