LOWELL — Democrat Lori Trahan announced Monday four women who will join her staff as she heads to Washington, D.C. to represent the 3rd Congressional District.

The list includes well-known Lowell-native Emily Byrne, who will serve as Trahan’s district director. In 2002, Byrne was hired by Trahan to work as an aide in then-Congressman Marty Meehan’s office.

She was a senior advisor to Meehan while he was the UMass Lowell Chancellor and later president of the University of Massachusetts. Byrne is also a graduate of the university.

Northbridge-native Alicia Molt West will serve as Trahan’s chief of staff in Washington, according to the press release. Over the last nine years, she has advised members of congress including U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern, a democrat representing Massachusetts’ 2nd Congressional District. She currently serves as the deputy chief of staff and legislative director to Rep. Mark Pocan, a Wisconsin Democrat.

Jackie Bart will serves as the deputy chief of staff based in Massachusetts. She was hired as Trahan’s finance assistant in October 2017 and was later promoted to finance director then campaign manager. Previously, she worked in education, both in the nonprofit sector and as a teaching assistant, according to the press release.

Sara Khun Leng, the former director of immigration services for Meehan’s office, will serve as Trahan’s constituent services director. She has also worked at the Lowell Police Department as the director of victim services and community relations. Most recently she was the special events coordinator for the city of Lowell.

In the press release Trahan said it’s necessary to bring talented and experienced people to government to achieve her campaign’s goals.

“I’m excited about the contributions these women will make, and over the coming weeks I will continue ti build a team that will hit the ground running on day one to serve the needs of our constituents in the district,” she said.

This is a developing story.
