LONG BEACH >> The dog of an Army servicewoman may have been stolen near the Belmont Shore area, and family are asking for the public’s help.

Brittnay Ames, 24, a servicewoman now stationed in Louisiana, has owned the dog since her 14th birthday. Over the years, Jake — a 12-year-old, male, Pomeranian, Shiba, Corgi mix — helped her cope with her mother’s death and the death of three friends, Ames’ uncle, Robert Pinney, said.

When Ames went to college about seven years ago, Pinney offered to take care of her beloved pet. He extended that offer when she joined the Army until she was assigned a more permanent station.

“She was moving around and couldn’t take him, but now she’s stationed in Louisiana,” he said. “She can take him and we don’t have him.”

Pinney said he was in Long Beach, where he keeps a boat, with the dog on New Year’s Eve. He left the boat to get food and when he returned, he found the boat ransacked, and the dog missing.

Jake is not microchipped, he said.

In the weeks since, Pinney has posted fliers to shelters, lost and found centers, community groups and Facebook pages to no avail.

He has one message for anyone who might have seen Jake or who is in possession of the dog.

“There’s no questions. I’m still offering (a reward). Our main concern is to get Jake back.”

The dog was last seen on Dec. 31 in the Shoreline Marina 450 E. Shoreline Drive in Long Beach. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call or text Robert Pinney at 626-322-6526.
