AND TOMORROW T CENTER OF DOWNTOWN WINSTON-SALEM. WE’ TALKING ABOUT CHILDHOOD. HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS FUN FAMILY EVENT IS CASEY CLAUSEN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE WITH US AND WE CAN CASEY THIS EVENT TRULY HITS HOME FOR YOU YOUR HUSBAND AND YOUR SPECIAL ANGEL CAR YOU TELL US WHY THIS IS THREE YEARS OLD. IT WAS IT WAS AMAZING. DO YOU THINK IT’S GOING TO BE A SAD EVENT BECAUSE YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT KIDS WITH CANCER, BUT IT’S NOT YOU WHO IS EXPERIENCED EVERY EMOTION, BUT IT’S POWERFUL AND IT’S EMPOWERING AND IT’S UPLIFTING AND IT’S PROMISING AND IT’S HOPEFUL BECAUSE WHEN YOU’RE THERE YOU’RE HAVING A DIRECT IMPACT YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE EVERY PERSON WHO SHAVES THEIR HEAD EVERY PERSON WHO DONATES YOU’RE SAVING A LIFE BECAUSE ST. BALDRICK’S THEY DO ONE THING AND THEY DO IT WELL AND THEY THEY FUND CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH WHO YOU ARE LEE SHAVED YOUR HEAD THAT YOU DID THE WHOLE THING. WHAT WAS THAT EXPERIENCE LIKE FOR YOU? LIKE I SAID, IT’S YOU CAN EVEN MY SON HAS BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL THAT WE CAN BECAUSE HE WAS SICK AND SO WE DIDN’T KNOW IF WE WERE GOING TO MAKE IT SO IT WAS TOUCH-AND-GO, BUT HE GOT REALLY SENT MORNING. WE WENT HOME WE CHANGE CLOTHES WE WENT AND WE HIS WHOLE SCHOOL WAS THERE AND SO IT WAS SO COOL, AND IT’S JUST SO MUCH SUPPORT AND IT IS IT’S IT’S SAD BECAUSE YOU REALIZE WHILE YOU’RE THERE BUT YOU’RE LAUGHING AND PEOPLE ARE HAVIN ARE HAVING A GREAT TIME AND YOU DON’T GLEN DOES GET SHADY EYEBALLS GET SHAVED. IT WAS SO COOL. AND IT’S JUST AND YOU CAN’T SEE ANYTHING. SO YOU FEEL THEM SHAVING AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE AND YOUR SISTER SAID YOU BETTER PACK SOME BIG EARRINGS BECAUSE I YOU LOOK LIKE CRAP, YOU KNOW AS YOU’RE STARTING TO SEE THE MONEY COME IN FOR YOU YOU RAISE THE MOST MONEY AS A SINGLE PERSON. AND IT ARMY BEHIND YOU. I’M SURE OVER $30,000 WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR MIND AS IF DOLLAR WAS COMING IN AND HE’S CRAZY I DECIDED TO DO IT AND I KNEW PRETTY EARLY ON AFTER CONNOR GOT DIAGNOSED. HE WAS DIAGNOSED IN APRIL OF THAT YEAR AND WE SHAVED IN SEPTEMBER AND I KNEW IT WAS SOMETHING I WANTED TO DO. AND SO I WAS LIKE, OKAY. I’M JUST GOING TO PUT IT OUT THERE. WE KEPT THE FAMILY BLOG, YOU KNOW, SO PEOPLE COULD KEEP TRACK OF WHAT WAS A SITUATIONAL JUST HAPPENED THEY DO BECAUSE YOU CAN’T BE TEXTING EVERYBODY AND SO I PUT IT OUT THERE LIKE ME I CARE ABOUT MY HAIR AND SO IT WAS YOU KNOW, I THINK IT WAS SHOCKED, BUT I WAS GOING TO DO THIS AND SO I WOULD SHOW PICTURES OF THE HAIRSTYLES. I’D HAD OVER THE YEARS AND THE MONEY JUST KEPT COMING AND LIKE WE HIT THE FIVE THOUSAND WITHIN A DAY AND THEN YOU JUST CUT IT COMING AND THEN FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND MY HUSBAND’S WORK AND IT WAS IT WAS AMAZING. WE ARE NOT KNOW I SEE WHAT’ JERSEYS AND THE FAMILIES WHO GO TO THIS. THIS MIGHT BE SOMETHING HARD TO GET OUT AND GO TO YOU SAID THE SUPPORT. IS THERE 100 PERCENT OF ITS GREAT. I MEAN EVEN IF LIKE YOU’RE JUST LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO TOMORROW. IT’S A BIG PARTY ON THE STREET. IS THAT FINNEGAN’S WAKE SO PEOPLE ARE DRINKING OR EATING HAVING A GOOD TIME AS INSIDE. IT’S OUTSIDE. IT’S FUN TO JUST WATCH SOME PEOPLE WALK OFF THE STREET AND GET HIS NOSE AND FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE ARE IT’S NOT JUST FAMILIES WHO HAVE HAD THIS EXPERIENCE WITH CHILDREN WITH CANCER. IT’S BECAME AND SUPPORT US THE HAD A GREAT DAY. YOU JUST SAY HAVE FUN. IT’S A FUN EVENT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE. On Saturday September 21, 2019 the center of downtown Winston Salem will shut down to focus on a cause that impacts 300,000 children every year.Childhood cancer impacts families in the Triad each in a unique way and they are counting on you to help make a difference. Join WXII Talitha Vickers has she emcee's the 13th Annual St. Baldrick's Day outside of Finnigan's Wake on Trade Street.The family event will shut down the street with activities for people of all ages as the community attempts to shatter a fundraising goal for children with cancer by shaving their heads.The event starts at 12:30 p.m. and runs until 6pm.Talitha Vickers spoke with a local mother Casey Crossan who knows the impact of childhood cancer first hand as she continues to honor her son Conner.
