Bank robbery suspects arrested after exchange of gunfire with police in Tillamook County

CLOVERDALE, Ore. — A man and a woman who robbed a bank in Cloverdale were arrested after a chase and exchange of gunfire with police on a forest service road Thursday, authorities said.

No one was injured or killed by gunfire.

Police on Friday identified the suspects as 36-year-old Matthew G. Buswell and 34-year-old Cassandra Maughan.

According to Oregon State Police, the duo robbed a U.S. Bank branch in Cloverdale around 11:30 a.m.

Cloverdale is located along Highway 101 in Tillamook County.

Police and Tillamook County sheriff’s deputies tracked the suspects to a forest service road off Sandlake Road, where the suspects rammed an OSP vehicle with their car.

The two suspects were taken into custody after a shootout with police, according to OSP. It wasn’t immediately clear how many shots were fired or how many officers were involved.

Buswell and Maughan, who are from the Salem/Keizer area, were taken to a hospital for injuries suffered in the crash, police said.

Buswell is charged with first-degree robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a firearm (2 counts), first-degree theft, menacing (3 counts) and tampering with evidence.

Maughan is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

The names of the officers have not been released.
